Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Era ("Era," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to everyone who installs or uses the Era mobile app on iOS or Android. It does not cover third-party services that you may reach through links from the App; those services have their own privacy policies.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what is needed to provide the App and personalize your experience.
2.1 Information you give us
- Account information. When you sign in, we receive your email address (for email sign-in) or a unique identifier from Apple or Google (for Sign in with Apple / Google). If you do not sign in, we create an anonymous account tied to a device-generated identifier.
- Onboarding profile. During onboarding you tell us about yourself — for example your first name, the people who matter to you, your current and desired location, your goals and aspirations, your current life state, what you find draining, your worldview and values, and your preferences for how stories are written. Some of this information may be considered sensitive (for example, references to health, religion, or relationships). You provide this information voluntarily so that we can generate content tailored to you.
- In-app edits. When you edit your profile or memory in the App, we store the updated content.
2.2 Information generated by your use of the App
- Generated content. Stories, transcripts, scene metadata, and audio files we generate for you, plus your interactions with them (favorites, plays, playback position).
- Subscription and purchase status. If you purchase a subscription, we receive purchase and entitlement information from Apple, Google, or our subscription provider (RevenueCat). We do not receive or store your payment card details.
- Diagnostics. Anonymized crash reports and performance data, used to detect and fix bugs (provided by Sentry). You can disable diagnostics in your device settings.
- Technical data. Limited technical metadata such as app version, operating system, device type, language, and timestamps of generation requests.
2.3 Information we do not collect
- We do not collect your contacts, photos, calendar, microphone, location coordinates, or biometric data.
- We do not use cookies, advertising identifiers, or cross-app tracking.
- We do not use your data to train AI models.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the App, including generating personalized audio stories for you.
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- Process subscriptions and manage entitlements.
- Diagnose crashes, debug issues, and improve performance.
- Communicate with you about service-related matters (for example, security or material changes to this policy).
- Comply with legal obligations.
We rely on the following legal bases (where GDPR or comparable laws apply): performance of a contract (to deliver the App), your consent (for sensitive profile information you choose to share), our legitimate interests (for diagnostics and security), and compliance with legal obligations.
4. How content is generated
When generating a story for you, our backend sends a short, rendered prompt (derived from your profile) to:
- OpenRouter — for the language model that writes the script.
- DeepInfra — for the text-to-speech engine that produces the audio.
These providers act as data processors under our instructions. We do not send your full structured profile to these providers, and we do not share your data with them for any purpose other than generating your content.

Each provider processes data on our behalf under appropriate contractual safeguards. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with advertisers.
6. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on infrastructure operated by Supabase, primarily in the United States. By using the App you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate transfer mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long we keep your data
We retain your account, profile, and generated content for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account (see Section 9), we permanently delete the data described below within a reasonable period and without unnecessary delay. Diagnostic logs may be retained for a limited period for security and debugging.
8. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, access controls, and ownership-checked data access policies (row-level security). No system is perfectly secure. If you become aware of unauthorized access to your account, please contact us immediately at the address above.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Export your data in a portable, machine-readable format. You can do this at any time from You → Download my data in the App. The export is a JSON file containing your account metadata, your full profile, all generated stories, and time-limited links to your audio files.
- Correct inaccurate information by editing your profile in the App.
- Delete your account and personal information. You can do this at any time from You → Delete account. Deletion is permanent and immediate, and removes:
- All audio files we generated for you,
- All story records,
- Your profile,
- Your authentication record, and
- Local data on your device.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app controls or contact us at the address above. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
10. Children
The App is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request access or deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information. You can exercise your access and deletion rights as described in Section 9.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, if the changes are material, notify you in the App or by email. Continued use of the App after the changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
